Holy Cross Melkite Catholic Church Bulletin. Sunday, November 25, 2018.
Thirteenth Sunday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Gospel of the Rich Young Man.

November 25. Leave-taking of the Feast of the Presentation: commemoration of the holy Great-martyr of Christ and most wise Catherine of Alexandria and of the Holy Great-martyr Mercury.
Catherine of Alexandria was a virgin of rare and striking beauty, a member of a noble and wealthy family. Her qualities had attracted to her influential men of the city, the philosophers and even Emperor Maximianus. She was martyred in the 305.
Mercury was martyred in Caesarea of Cappadocia under Emperor Decius (249-251).

Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die’ ” (John 11:26).
The Holy Cross Melkite Catholic Church Community offer our condolences to the family of the handmaid of God, Odet Kashou who reposed in the Lord on November 19, 2018. We extend our condolences to the entire Kashou family. The Sunday, November 25 Liturgy will be celebrated in her memory. May her memory be eternal.

Store up treasure in Heaven by giving a generous gift to the Bishop’s Appeal. If you have not already sent your gift, please do so today so that 100% of our parish will be counted. We uploaded many Melkite hymns for the Divine Liturgy and other important services. To practice or become more familiar with our beautiful liturgical hymns you can listen or download them by visiting the above link.

Vocation Awareness. The Gospel shows a beautiful vocation story. Christ invites a young man to follow Him and join in His ministry. Notice that worldly concerns have become too central in his life, and impedes his response – though his desire to do so is obviously there. Saint Paul reminds us that the devil is constantly trying to keep us from surrendering to God’s plans. Pray that many will be strong enough to respond to Christ’s invitation to the priestly ministry. It is an invitation, and will not be “forced” – but we can help possible candidates by our prayers and faith-filled encouragement.

Vocation View. Saint Paul urges Christian readers to live a life of communion, in mutual love, and in the love that God has given us. Jesus teaches us the importance and implications of that life of loving communion. Who shall preach and teach it to us today? Pray for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and monastic life and encourage possible candidates.

A Prayer for Vocations. O Lord God, in every age, You invite men and women to hear Your call to serve You and the Church. We bow before You now, asking that You call forth more persons to serve our Melkite Church in America. Give us priests, deacons, monks and nuns, who will lead and guide your holy people. By Your will, bless us with vocations so that we continue to be the church which You called us to be, centuries ago. Let all hear Your voice inviting them to care for and serve Your people. Strengthen us in being disciples of Jesus Christ, Your Only-begotten Son and fishers of men. Inspire in us the spirit and pride of Antioch, our holy heritage. We ask You, O Lover of mankind, to raise up men and women who appreciate what they have received from You and who want to be generous in their service, willing to offer their lives and all their gifts, to serve others, to give You glory, thanksgiving and worship, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 2). When you descended to death, O Immortal Life, You destroyed Hades by the splendor of your Divinity, and when you raised the dead from under the ground, all the Powers of heaven cried out: O Christ our God, the giver of life, glory to you.
Troparion of the Presentation (Tone 4). Today is the prelude to God’s munificence, and the announcement of the salvation of men: in the Temple of God the Virgin is seen openly, foretelling to all the coming of Christ. Wherefore let us cry out to her with all our strength: “Joy to you, Fulfillment of the Creator’s Plan!”
Troparion of the Holy Cross (Tone 2). O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance. Strengthen our Public Authorities in every good deed and protect your nation with your Cross.
Kondakion of the Presentation of our Lady to the Temple (Tone 4). The most pure Temple of the Savior, His most precious bridal chamber, the Virgin, sacred treasury of God’s glory, enters today in the house of the Lord, bringing with her the grace of the divine Spirit. Wherefore the angels of God are singing: “Behold the heavenly tabernacle!”

Readings for Sunday, November 25, 2018.
Epistle Galatians 3:23-4:5.
Prokimenon (Tone 1)
Awesome in his saints is God, the God of Israel.
Stichon: In the churches, bless God, the Lord out of Israel’s wellsprings.

A Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Galatians.
Brethren, before the faith came, we were kept imprisoned under the Law, shut up from the faith that was to be revealed. Therefore the Law has been our tutor unto Christ, that we might be made holy by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all God’s children through faith in Christ Jesus. For all you who have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor freeman; there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to the promise.

ALLELUIA (Tone 1)

I have waited, waited for the Lord, and he stooped toward me and heard me.
Stichon: He set my feet upon a rock; he made firm my steps.

Luke 18:18-28 (The Rich Young Man)
The Holy Gospel According To St. Luke the Evangelist.
At that time a certain man approached Jesus and asked him, saying, “Good Master, what shall I do to gain eternal life?” But Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but only God. You know the commandments; ‘Thou shat not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Thou shalt not bear false witness. Honor thou father and mother.” And he said, “All these I have kept ever since I was a child.” But when Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing is still lacking to you; sell everything you own, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When he heard these things, he was much grieved, for he was very rich. But Jesus, seeing him become sad, said, “With what difficulty will the wealthy enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” And they who heard it said, “Who then can be saved?” He said to them, “Things men cannot do alone, they can do with God’s help.”
