2019-07-28-bulletin-for-sunday

Holy Cross Melkite Catholic Church Bulletin. July 28, 2019.
Seventh Sunday after Pentecost. Healing of the Two Blind Men.

July 28. Commemoration of the Holy Apostles and Deacons Prochor, Nicanor, Timon, and Parmenas. These four deacons are among the Seven chosen by the apostles to help them serve the faithful.
All four saints commemorated today were of the number of the seven deacons and the seventy apostles. The other three deacons were Stephen, Philip and Nicholas. These are commemorated elsewhere: Stephen on December 27 and Philip on October 11. Because today's four deacons have no separate commemoration, they are commemorated today.

Join us for the “Sunday Hymn Camp” which will take place for six weeks from 12:30 p.m.-1:00 p.m. from July 14-August 18, with a concert on August 25. Hymns: (See our Church’s website for Audio Recordings: holycrossmelkite.org/Melkite-hymns)
Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 6). The angelic powers were around Your tomb, and the guards became as dead; and Mary stood at the tomb, seeking Your spotless body. Then You despoiled Hades without being tried by it and You met the Virgin, O Bestower of life. O Lord, who rose from the dead, glory to You!
Troparion of the Holy Cross (Tone 2). O Lord save your people and bless your inheritance, granting peace to the world; and protect your community by the power of your Cross.
Kondakion. Transfiguration of the Lord (Tone 7). O Christ God, you were transfigured on the Mountain, and your disciples saw as much of your glory as they could hold, so that seeing You crucified they would know You had willed to suffer your passion and would proclaim to the world that You as verily the Reflection of the Father.

Vocation Awareness. As seen in today’s Gospel, in Jesus’s ministry he helps people see reality clearly, frees them from the paralysis (especially of sin) in their lives, and stirs up their faith. Saint Paul tells us that the Scriptures are available for our instruction and to give us hope and strength to serve the weak. We need priests in our communities to coordinate and see that these ministries continue, that Jesus’s teaching be given and received, and that the whole Church continues to be what it is called to be. Pray for and encourage vocations to the priesthood for our diocese. It affects us all now, as well as for our future.

Vocation View. Saint Paul urges Christian readers to live a life of communion, in mutual love, and in the love that God has given us. Jesus teaches us the importance and implications of that life of loving communion. Who shall preach and teach it to us today? Pray for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and monastic life and encourage possible candidates.

A Prayer for Vocations. O Lord God, in every age, You invite men and women to hear Your call to serve You and the Church. We bow before You now, asking that You call forth more persons to serve our Melkite Catholic Church in America. Give us priests, deacons, monks and nuns, who will lead and guide your holy people. By Your will, bless us with vocations so that we continue to be the church which You called us to be, centuries ago. Let all hear Your voice inviting them to care for and serve Your people. Strengthen us in being disciples of Jesus Christ, Your Only-begotten Son and fishers of men. Inspire in us the spirit and pride of Antioch, our holy heritage. We ask You, O Lover of mankind, to raise up men and women who appreciate what they have received from You and who want to be generous in their service, willing to offer their lives and all their gifts, to serve others, to give You glory, thanksgiving and worship, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

The Great Paraclisis was composed by Emperor Theodore II Laskaris in the 13th century.

Readings for Sunday, July 28, 2019.
Prokimenon (Tone 6)
O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance!
Stichon: To You, 0 Lord, I have called: O my Rock, be not deaf to me!

A Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Romans (15:1-7).
Now, we the strong should bear the infirmities of the weak, instead of catering to ourselves. Let every one of you please his neighbor by doing good for his edification: for Christ did not seek his own pleasure, but as it is written, The reproaches of those who, reproach you have fallen on me. (Ps.6: 10) For whatever has been written has been written for our instruction, that through the patience and consolation afforded by the Scriptures, we may have hope. May then the God of patience and comfort grant you to be of one mind towards one another according to Jesus Christ, so that being one in spirit you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Wherefore receive one another as Christ has received you, in a manner that gives honor to God.

ALLELUIA (Tone 6)
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High abides in the shadow of the God of heaven. Stichon: He will say to the Lord, “My wall, my refuge, my God in whom I will trust!”

The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew the Evangelist 9:27-35.
At that time as Jesus was passing on, two blind men followed Him, crying out and saying “Have pity on us, Son of David” And when He had reached the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I can do this to you?” They answered Him, “Yes, Lord.” Then He touched their eyes, saying, “Let it be done to you according to your faith.” And their eyes were opened. And Jesus strictly charged them, saying, “See that no one knows of this!” But they went out and spread His fame abroad throughout all that district. Now as they were going out, behold, there was brought to Him a dumb man possessed by a devil. And when the devil had been cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, “Never has the like of this been seen in Israel.” But the Pharises said, “By the prince of devils He casts out devils.” And Jesus was going about all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Good News of the kingdom, and curing every kind of disease and infirmity in the people.
